About

My name is Jonathan Nicholas, former information security consultant turned commercial pilot. I started my flight training in November 2017 and finished in December 2018.

I decided to pursue a different line of work that I believe will keep me happier into later life and I am using this blog to record my journey to becoming a commercial pilot. I find that reflecting on experiences is an important way of learning from them. I want to share what I have learnt from my passions. Furthermore I want this website to be a resource to learn from where anyone else in similar shoes.

I have been fortunate enough to have some incredible experiences. It has led me to realise two things I cherish: a passion for aviation which has led me to pursue an aviation career and a love of the outdoors.

So you ask what are these experiences? Here is one of my favourites and most nostalgic:

Flying through the Welsh valleys at 500ft at 420kts in a RAF Hawk T1a:

Summary: – I’m an ambitious aviator enjoying my journey to my first flying job, with a love of technology and the outdoors.
